"I don't understand. I built this huge Flash site and I can't find it in any of the search engines."
The format of a website will make or break the site in terms of being found in a search engine. The website's functionality also determines how well it will be viewed in a particular browser, device or computer.
For instance, Flash is not compatible with Apple's mobile devices and some Android devices. Since a search engine uses bots to read your text on a site and index it using the words that appear on your site, if your index page is lacking in relevant words regarding your website's content, that will cause the site not to show up in search engines.
In order for your website to be listed in search engines your content must be available to visitors and must be in the right format to be crawled by search engines. Relevant content must be in text format. Images, Flash, Java applets, and any non-text content is virtually invisible to search engines; hence not searchable, hence not found in search engines and not found by the public.
Search Engines need content in order to list pages on the massive index. Search engines will start with the index, home page and go further to other linked pages. However, pages can not be indexed if: submission is required, page contains I-frames, hidden content, javascript or some plug ins, or pages with hundreds of links.
Content, content, content and knowledge of the important elements on a website all contribute to a site being found. Getting help and getting the right elements on your website will allow it to be discovered by search engines and drive traffic to your door.
