Search Engine Optimization is the process of taking a website and making it easily found on the internet by search engines. To make it easy to find, keywords are added to your website and are placed in the code. These keywords should reflect your website's message and be the keywords that are commonly used by the public when searching for your type of business.

You must basically write your website using a marketing strategy geared toward your clients. Your language should be clear of jargon and speak to the public using words they would use when referring to your industry.

How do you do this?  You check to see what words people are already using in their searches to find business like yours. For example: "catalogue" vs."catalog" or "cell phones" vs. "smart phones."  Don't write a website in English for Spanish speaking people. The language you use should be geared toward the majority of the people you want to use your website.

Putting up a website with great content alone is not enough.  Websites with great content must be marketed to be found. To make a website popular, it must be maintained and marketed with a great strategy. This can be the full-time job of talented and creative marketers.
