10 Rules for Using Forms

So you want to collect data from your website? Great idea.  But there are some simple rules of thumb that you need to remember when using forms to help you get the most from your website forms.

The simple form rules will encourage users to submit the information you want:
  1. Use clear, simple language
  2. Be as concise as possible
  3. Accept data as given and reformat after
  4. Only ask for data you need
  5. immediate alert that pop up for users regarding to input issues instead of at the end
  6. Organize longer forms into logical sections
  7. Indicate where users are on the form and allow tab navigation to help completion
  8. State how information will be used
  9. Use connection options like Facebook or LinkedIn that can auto-fill information
  10. Use defaults that are the most common answer for a field so it can be skipped
Careful planning and organization of forms on your website can make a big difference in both the quality and quantity of responses you receive.  Taking a few minutes to do it right can make all the difference.

I hope these marketing tips make your campaigns more effective.
